Real estate and RECO path

RECO registration and CRJMC

RECO regulates real estate professionals in Ontario. A CRJMC has been required at initial registration for many years. Renewals may require one based on your history or when instructed by RECO.

  • Do not order a CRJMC for RECO until MyWeb instructs you during your application. Ordering too early can cause timing issues.

  • Ensure the document is up to date when you submit.

Licensing and background checks

What is a CRJMC, and why does it matter

A Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check is a level 2 police background check used by Ontario regulators and employers. For security guard licensing, a current CRJMC is part of the Ministry of the Solicitor General's application package. For real estate, RECO requires a current CRJMC at initial registration and may need it on renewals based on your history. Make sure your CRJMC is recent. Most regulators accept a document issued within the last six months and in original digital format when applying online. Always follow the specific instructions from the regulator or employer when they invite you to submit your check. If you're in a rush or don't want to visit a police station, get your criminal check online at crjmc.net

Security guard licensing checklist

  • Complete ministry-compliant basic training

  • Hold an Emergency First Aid certificate for the initial license

  • Be 18 or older and legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Submit a CRJMC as part of your application

  • Maintain a valid two-year Security Guard License and renew on time

Employment outlook

  • Ontario has tens of thousands of security guard roles with moderate growth projected through 2026. Replacement hiring is steady as people change roles or retire

RECO registration checklist

  • Complete RECO-approved education

  • Meet integrity, financial responsibility, and legal compliance requirements.

  • Provide a CRJMC when prompted by RECO.

  • Keep your registration in good standing and be ready for additional checks if requested.

This week and next: a simple plan

December 2025

  • Attend the Canada Job Expo on December 11 with printed resumes and a short pitch.

  • If relevant, review resources from the December 10 Hire Canada virtual event.

  • Use JVS workshops to tune your resume and interview answers.

Before January 2026

  • Shortlist employers and roles in your target region

  • For security roles, make sure your CRJMC is current, and start license training if you are new to the industry

  • For real estate, compare RECO education providers and timelines

  • Register for Seneca fairs and map your route to each campus

  • Connect on LinkedIn with recruiters and hiring managers you met

January and February 2026

  • Attend Seneca fairs, follow up within 48 hours

  • Prepare for Toronto Blue Jays interviews scheduled for January 17 and 18

  • Apply to Garda, Hydra, and other active security employers

  • Track applications and send concise follow-ups

Key takeaways

  • December through early February is a strong hiring window for Ontario's security and real estate sectors.

  • Keep your CRJMC up to date and submit it in the format requested by the regulator or employer.

  • Meet employers in person when you can. Candidates who network at events have a higher conversion to interviews.

  • Align your resume to each posting and bring evidence of licenses, training, and availability.
